Batman encounters the Man in the eternal mask. A madman is loose, destroying paintings of a particular artist, including a portrait of Batman. Turns out that a promising young high school footballer was involved in a car crash. His handsome features disfigured, he was put back together by a plastic surgeon - who was also an artist. The surgeon was so proud of his work that he asked the footballer to pose while he painted him. However, a week or so later, the stitches fell apart, and the young man was now looking more grotesque than ever. To hide his features, he now wears a mask of how he should look. In revenge, he sets out to destroy all the paintings ever done by the surgeon and finally to kill the man he blamed for his condition. Batman arrives in time to prevent murder.
