1. The Purifier ships have just destroyed the planet Arcturus IV with a massive asteroid known as the Planet Pulverizer. They now set their sights on a new planet - Earth. Meanwhile, Quasar is notified by his mother that something strange is happening on Earth. A message in the sky says 'We Come In Peace.' Quasar investigates and finds a massive alien ship in Earth's orbit. Upon entering, he is welcomed and informed that they are a group known as the Charter, an organization of peaceful, civilized worlds. Quasar believes that they truly come in peace and decides to rest. When he awakens, he finds everyone on board dead. Meanwhile, Aldebron and Sidereus create a message to have Quasar confess to the murders and broadcast it to nearby galaxies. This gains the attention of Beta Ray Bill and the Silver Surfer. Back on the Charter's ship, Quasar is met by the Charter's security force, the Cosmic Commandos. They attempt to arrest him for his crime, but Quasar resists when not given the chance to understand the situation. Outside the ship he runs into the Surfer and Bill. The Surfer is able to tell that Quasar is not lying. But now they have a bigger problem. The giant asteroid is head straight for the Earth.
2. The Planet Pulverizer has reached Earth and it is up to Quasar, Beta Ray Bill and the Silver Surfer to stop it. They begin to focus their attacks on the massive rock when they are contacted by Morfex, the leader of the Cosmic Commandos. He wants Quasar turned over to him immediately. The Surfer refuses and Morfex sends the squad out to capture Quasar. Bill and Quasar are preoccupied by the Commandos while the Surfer, who cannot be harmed by the squad, continues to try to destroy the asteroid. Morfex soon realizes that they are trying to save the planet and orders his crew to assist them and worry about Quasar later. But another Commando is ordered to relieve Morfex of command. Morfex is knocked out and thrown into space to die. With the Commandos out of the way, they once again focus on the asteroid. The Surfer is able to use the residual energy left behind by Galactus' barrier to destroy it. But this does not stop a black hole the size of a marble that was holding the rock together. Beta Ray Bill is able to create a vortex and send the black hole far from any planet. Earth is now saved and Morfex and Xenith agree to join forces with the others to find who is behind the deaths of the Charter members and the threat to Earth. This is the beginning of the super team the Star Masters.
3. The evil Sidereus has gathered the Korbinites and is throwing them into the Cauldron of Conversion, a storehouse for a deadly virus that can kill entire races. This plan will work where the Planet Pulverizer has failed. Meanwhile, the Star Masters continue to battle the rejuvenated Cosmic Commandos. But the Commandos are not mighty enough and are defeated. Aboard the Hub, Tana Nile and a group of other Rigellians are investigating the deaths of the Charter members. They are ambushed by some Axi-Tun and captured. The Star Masters enter the Hub as well to find the answers they seek. They are ambushed as well and captured. They are prepared to be thrown into the cauldron. Before they are thrown in, Beta Ray Bill somehow disappears. The rest are thrown into the cauldron, but Quasar awakens just in time to save his friends. But it seems that the contents of the cauldron are alive. Continued in Cosmic Powers Unlimited #4.
